CANAPE: Coring with the next generation – For communities that live around wetlands, it is important they have a way to understand and value them. This allows them to help protect them and gain from the natural resilience they provide to climate change. Soil coring gives an important insight into the hydrology and history of the site, which is key to conservation. Inviting the public and students to help provides more person-power, and gives them a hands on understanding of the importance of peat.

CATCH: Enschede, the Netherlands – a public space serving in water collection, as playground, and for public awareness raising. In a playful way, children learn about water’s multiple functions and about climate impacts. CATCH accelerates the redesign of urban water management of midsize cities in the North Sea Region, helping them become climate resilient, liveable and profitable in the long term.

In For Care: Local cooperation gardens – in 4 neighbourhoods, residents would like to have a common garden, a piece of land, where they can garden together and where they can meet each other.
6
In For Care: Little local neighbourhood libraries are libraries in a neighbourhood or street, made and managed by local residents themselves, to promote informal connections. The reason people have to make this themselves is already starting because of the connection process.
7
In For Care: Open Street day is like car-free street parties. Participating neighborhoods will be car-free that day, so there is a place to play and party on the street. Various neighborhoods organise a flea market in the morning. The City of Turnhout supports all participating neighborhoods with numerous activities to attract young and old and to stimulate intergenerational contacts.

Local Neighbours’ Day: Individualism, withdrawal and loneliness are on the rise. Social bonds are growing loose. Every year in May, at Neighours Day, citizens all across Europe are invited to make a simple gesture: Invite your neighbours to share a nice time around a buffet or a luncheon, enhances social cohesion and creates new solidarities. This event gives citizens the opportunity to interact with each other and enables them to participate in an ever closer and more human European community.

2IMPREZS places pupils at the heart of their schools’ energy savings initiatives through the joint 2IMPREZS Energy Challenges, which will reduce CO2 by 7320 tonnes. In this photo, the Belgian ‘Energizers’ show off their Energy Eaters. The Energy Eaters, invented by the Belgian pupils for the transnational Energy Challenges, are little creatures that mark energy-consuming devices to show where energy savings are possible. They represent a main goal of 2IMPREZS: making energy saving fun! Photo: CompagnieFotography/Province of Antwerp
